Ignacio de Castro, director of the Arbitration and Mediation Center at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
The implementation of intellectual property and dispute resolution is crucial for the intellectual property ecosystem. WIPO's Arbitration and Mediation Center offers cost-effective alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services – aiding in resolving both domestic and cross-border intellectual property and technology disputes, including domain name disputes. They focus on key areas such as research and technology transfers, standard-essential patents, life sciences and digital copyrights.
WIPO has forged collaborative frameworks with China's Supreme People's Court. Moreover, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center has signed agreements with the High People's Courts in Shanghai and Fujian, Hainan, and Guangdong provinces, fostering significant progress in resolving intellectual property and technology disputes. The center has successfully handled nearly 100 cases in China, appointed mediators and achieved a 70 percent settlement rate, on par with international settlement rates. Moreover, the center looks forward to further deepening its collaboration in China.
