A delegation from the Intellectual Property Office of the United Kingdom paid a visit to the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, or SIPA – located in East China's Shanghai – on March 21.

Yu Chen, deputy director general of SIPA, welcomed the delegation from the UK body – led by Miles Rees, deputy director of its Rights Policy and Enforcement Division – and convened a work exchange symposium.

Yu briefed the guests on the primary functions of SIPA, as well as the current state of intellectual property protection efforts and policies in Shanghai.

In response, the UK delegation chief provided insights into the intellectual property landscape in his country.

Discussions revolved around various topics – including avenues for the protection of company rights, intellectual property protection on e-commerce platforms and key trademark protection initiatives in Shanghai.

The symposium involved the participation of senior intellectual property authorities from both the UK and SIPA, in a productive event that was said to foster an extremely fruitful exchange of ideas and experiences.
