A training course on the service system of the World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO was held in Shanghai in East China on Dec 14.

The course was jointly organized by the WIPO Office in China and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, or SIPA.

Lv Guoqiang, director of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service, thoroughly explained WIPO's services to the participants.

Patent examiners from the China National Intellectual Property Administration gave lectures on how to use the International Patent System, or PCT and the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs.

Lv Guoqiang told the training session that a good understanding of the WIPO service system could help enterprises – especially small and medium-sized ones – to develop a global vision and boost their ability to manage IP overseas and protect their rights abroad.

In his speech, Yu Chen, deputy director general of SIPA, highlighted the remarkable achievements in IP talent training and dispute resolution resulting from the collaboration between WIPO and the Shanghai municipal government in recent years.

Moreover, it was to be hoped that the training course would contribute to closer collaboration, Yu added.

The training course attracted more than 100 participants, who were from businesses, IP service institutions, IP research institutions, and universities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
