The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration recently unveiled its 14th catalog of key trademark protection in East China's Shanghai, featuring 75 registered trademarks from 46 enterprises.

At present, the city has a total of 1,015 trademarks listed on the protection list, encompassing both domestic and international brands with a high profile.

Covering traditional domains like machinery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, clothing and textiles and hospitality – onto developing fields such as pet food, financial services, e-commerce platforms and computer software – the register supports trademarks with widespread recognition and rich histories.

In a proactive step to bolster trademark protection, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration has integrated these key trademarks into its annual intellectual property protection program.

Special initiatives have been implemented, including online monitoring using the trademarks as keywords to rapidly identify and address any unauthorized breaches.

Stringent measures will be employed against malicious trademark infringements, with a focus on encouraging enterprises with key trademarks to actively pursue invalidation requests against unauthorized registrations.

For their broader protection, the administration is fostering collaboration between the Yangtze River Delta and 12 other regions, including Beijing, Shandong and Chongqing.

The initiative aims to incorporate key trademarks in a cross-regional protection directory, fostering mutual recognition and collaborative safeguarding.

Active support is being extended to businesses involved in overseas trademark litigation, providing expert guidance and financial assistance.

Moving forward, efforts will be directed toward establishing a robust, long-term mechanism for trademark protection, according to the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration.
