Shanghai, a giant magnet for global investment, has been striving to create a first-class intellectual property, or IP protection environment for its foreign-funded enterprises to invest more and operate in the city.

It's well known that these businesses have already contributed significantly to Shanghai's economic growth, industrial upgrade and technological progress, creating a large number of jobs and generating substantial tax revenue.

Now, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, in accordance with its own functions, has undertaken various measures to strengthen rule of law guarantees, including a high-pressure crackdown on those who don't follow the rules and much more efficient protection of IP rights.

The city has issued several policies and regulations for protecting IP, adopting strict and equal protection as important working principles.

The city has already organized special actions for the IP protection of foreign-funded enterprises for three consecutive years. It's handled more than 60 administrative adjudication cases, involving foreign patent infringement disputes and more than 1,000 cases involving foreign trademark infringements.

It's also issued the Measures for the Administration of the List of Key Trademarks Protected in Shanghai, granting key protection to nearly 100 trademarks of foreign-funded enterprises.

In addition, the city has increased its protection of foreign-related IP disputes in the field of biomedicines, inviting some of the world's top enterprises in the field to hold special seminars in Shanghai and providing them with professional guidance in patent protection.
