Shanghai's Jiading district held a conference on Intellectual Property operations on Oct 21, gathering more than 200 officials, researchers, businesses and service providers.

Participants discussed AI-driven manufacturing, pharmaceutical innovation, and AI infrastructure, emphasizing proactive IP planning and industry-research collaboration to translate patents into marketable technologies and to boost innovation across the Yangtze River Delta.

Experts highlighted that AI competition extends beyond technology to include patents, standards, capital, markets, and rules, calling for a shift from patent quantity to quality.
Over these years, Jiading has been building a full-chain innovation system covering research, technology validation, value assessment, financing and incubation. Next, it will focus on AI chips, intelligent connected vehicles, and biomedicine, encouraging businesses, universities, and research institutes to develop high-value patent portfolios and strengthen IP protection.
Two patent navigation projects were unveiled, covering Jiading's precision medicine industry and laser welding technology developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics.

A total of 10 new members joined Jiading's emerging-field IP collaborative innovation alliance, and a copyright operations center for Yi embroidery's intangible cultural heritage was launched under the Shanghai-Yunnan cooperation program.

Together, these measures are expected to accelerate patent commercialization and strengthen the YRD's innovation ecosystem.
