The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) held the Shanghai leg of its national publicity tour on newly revised intellectual property (IP) laws and regulations on Sept 4.
Liu Yi, director-general of CNIPA's Department of Treaty and Law, and Zhu Qigao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA), delivered speeches, while Wei Lan, deputy director-general of SIPA, moderated the event.

Liu said recent revisions to the Trademark Law, the Regulations on the Protection of Layout-Designs of Integrated Circuits and patent priority examination rules have strengthened the legal framework for IP protection.
The revisions address the needs of innovation development by improving trademark registration and protection, strengthening the protection of integrated circuit layout-designs, expanding the scope of priority examination, and shortening authorization cycles for key patents.

Zhu said Shanghai would step up its efforts to implement and publicize the revised rules, particularly among grassroots organizations and innovation-focused businesses, while improving training for IP officials and coordination among government departments.

Hosted by CNIPA and organized by SIPA, the event was held both online and offline. More than 150 representatives from IP authorities, enterprises and service institutions in Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangxi attended. More than 1,500 people watched the livestream through 44 sub-venues.
