The third session of Shanghai's program for training professionals in international intellectual property (IP) protection was held in the city's Minhang district on Aug 31, with representatives from government departments, universities, law firms, science parks and nearly 50 companies attending.

The program focused on the commercial use and dispute resolution of IP in cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), covering national policy planning, overseas IP disputes, international technology transfer, IP commercialization and investment decision-making.
Participants also took part in an immersive simulation involving a Chinese artificial-ligament company facing a patent infringement claim while expanding overseas. The exercise helped them practice decision-making throughout the business process, from advance planning and dispute response to loss mitigation.
"The program had shifted its focus from IP protection to the proactive use of IP, covering the full IP lifecycle through practical training," an official from the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center said.
An official from the Minhang District Intellectual Property Administration introduced opportunities in the Grand NeoBay and Hongqiao International Central Business District, while discussing challenges faced by companies going global.
