A promotional event for the newly established data innovation lab and trusted data space in Huangpu district, Shanghai, was held on Aug 21, marking a new step in Huangpu's exploration of the market-oriented development of data.

The two platforms were officially launched at the event, with 20 ecosystem partners becoming the first group of members.

To address challenges such as unclear data ownership and insufficient trust in data circulation, Huangpu has integrated comprehensive intellectual property registration services for data products into its district-level trusted data space, combining technological safeguards such as privacy-preserving computing with institutional protection through intellectual property rights.

Huangpu has been a pioneer in exploring IP protection for data products. Since establishing Shanghai's first district-level registration service centers for data product IP last year, the district has provided more than 180 guidance services. Its initiatives have supported the registration of public data related to urban infrastructure, helped emerging digital businesses such as esports and AI-native games clarify data ownership boundaries, and facilitated Shanghai's first IP-backed financing case involving data in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.

With the new platforms now operational, an IP services zone featuring five functional areas has been established. The zone will provide professional registration guidance, expand channels for data asset financing and strengthen administrative and judicial IP protection.
