Shanghai's Pudong New Area hosted the 2026 International Intellectual Property (IP) Service System Development Event on July 28.
This event brought together representatives from the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and other local authorities to enhance international IP services and support Chinese companies expanding overseas.

As one of China's leading gateways for international business, Pudong is home to more than 3,000 companies with global operations. The district's key industries - including artificial intelligence, integrated circuits and biomedicine - are increasingly active in international markets, creating growing demand for cross-border IP protection, compliance and dispute resolution.
Building on its cooperation with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service, Pudong will continue to strengthen its international IP service system by improving early-stage advisory services, integrated support mechanisms and international collaboration. The initiative aims to help businesses better protect intellectual property, manage overseas risks and enhance their global competitiveness.
During the event, experts from WIPO and CNIPA provided training on international IP dispute resolution, the Patent Cooperation Treaty application process, and the Madrid System for international trademark registration. Participants also learned about Pudong's policies and services for overseas IP protection, providing businesses with practical guidance for expanding into global markets.
