The Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Center has explored new approaches to the intellectual property protection of data in the first half of 2026, strengthening research, review services, and talent development to support Shanghai's digital economy innovation.
Focusing on global IP trends, the center built a full-chain research system covering information collection, analysis, evaluation, and rights confirmation. It also worked with Shanghai Library (Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of Shanghai) to expand information resources.
The center developed the Intellectual Property Frontier Dynamics Information Source Dataset, covering key areas including data IP protection, AI-generated content protection, standard-essential patents, and industrial innovation alerts. The dataset has obtained a data product IP certificate.
Meanwhile, the center has taken on responsibility for formal and substantive reviews of registration applications for data product IP in Shanghai. It carefully evaluates originality and compliance, helping companies protect and disseminate their data-based innovations.
In response to increasing demand from the data industry, the center set up a rapid review team for data IP applications. This team provides focused support and simplifies processes, assisting businesses in addressing challenges related to confirming data rights and bringing data to market.
The center also launched a team of young professionals to participate in the municipal youth skills exchange and display event, demonstrating digital expertise through IP review and research, and highlighting youth contributions to intelligent public services.
Looking ahead, the center will further improve IP research databases, optimize data product review mechanisms, and enhance professional services, contributing to Shanghai's goal of becoming a global hub for IP protection and innovation.
