The Shanghai (Yangtze River Delta) Green Tech Intellectual Property Management Clinic (IPMC) opened on May 19, bringing together the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Shanghai authorities, and green-tech firms to help innovators build IP portfolios, commercialize inventions, and expand overseas.
Guided by the WIPO Office in China, the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the program introduces WIPO's intellectual property management training model to the Yangtze River Delta's growing green technology sector.
Guy PESSACH, director of WIPO's Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystems Sector, sent a video message. Liu Hua, director of the WIPO Office in China, said the program marks deeper cooperation aimed at strengthening enterprises' international competitiveness in innovation and intellectual property.
The program selected 20 companies in the fields of energy conservation, environmental protection, circular economy, and clean energy. Participants will receive tailored training in patent strategy, licensing negotiations, risk prevention, dispute resolution and overseas intellectual property management through mentoring and practical exercises.
On the opening day, a professor from Tongji University Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property delivered a lecture on global governance of intellectual property. Participants later visited the NIO Center in Shanghai for practical exchanges on intellectual property strategies related to intelligent connected vehicles.
Officials said Shanghai will continue to strengthen its cooperation with WIPO and will introduce more international resources for green innovation. The initiative is expected to support the development of Shanghai's international science and technology innovation center as well as its intellectual property hub.
