The ninth Digital China Summit, themed "Accelerating the Innovative Development of Digital Intelligence Technology and Deepening the Construction of Digital China", opened in Fuzhou, Fujian province, on April 29.
During a sub-forum focused on large models, artificial intelligence agents and international legal frameworks, Wei Lan, deputy director of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA), and Yang Dong, dean of the Law School of Renmin University of China (RUC), signed a pilot cooperation agreement on the registration of intellectual property (IP) related to data products.
Since the launch of Shanghai's pilot program for data product IP registration in 2022, the RUC Law School has worked closely with SIPA to develop registration rules, examination standards and procedures. The university's foreign-related legal Q&A instruction data for the UK and Vietnam became the first data product IP registered by a Chinese university in Shanghai, followed by more than 10 additional data product IP registrations.
Under the new agreement, both parties will conduct joint research on international regulations and substantive examination standards for data product IP. They also plan to establish a talent cultivation base aimed at developing innovative professionals in data product IP, fostering interdisciplinary talent.
The sub-forum aimed to build consensus among academia, legal practitioners and industry stakeholders, guiding the development of artificial intelligence along a secure, trustworthy and rule-of-law-compliant path for sustained and steady progress.
