Pudong New Area recently held a training session on European patent strategy and protection. The event aimed to help local companies manage intellectual property (IP) risks and navigate the Unified Patent Court (UPC) system. Nearly 300 corporate representatives attended, either online or in person.
The training session was organized by the Pudong IP Protection Center and the Enterprise Going Global Service Center, and co-organized by the Shanghai Pudong International Chamber of Commerce and Dacheng Shanghai.
The session was led by a senior German attorney qualified as both a European patent lawyer and a UPC representative. It covered portfolio strategies, UPC opt-out decisions, responses to warning letters, prevention of exhibition injunctions, and Standard Essential Patent (SEP) litigation.
The session also addressed patent invalidation, infringement defense, and contractual risk mitigation. Participants engaged in lively discussions with the expert, raising real-world issues and receiving concrete solutions to their concerns about European patent portfolio development.
Many company representatives said their concerns about patent portfolio development and rights enforcement in Europe were effectively addressed. The training successfully enhanced their ability to prevent and manage IP risks in the European market.
Going forward, the Pudong IP Protection Center will continue to offer regular overseas IP training sessions to support companies in their global expansion and help build a strong IP shield for high-quality international growth.
