A training program on the effective use of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) service system was held in Shanghai's Songjiang district on April 9, attracting over 150 participants from enterprises and intellectual property service institutions.
The event was jointly organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) and the WIPO Office in China, and hosted by the Songjiang branch of SIPA, with officials and experts attending the opening ceremony.
Lyu Guoqiang from WIPO said the program focused on key services, including Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, Madrid System trademarks registrations and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) for international intellectual property disputes.
He added that these tools support industrial development and help enterprises expand globally, encouraging rights holders to use intellectual property more effectively to drive investment, employment and growth.
Officials from SIPA said the city is implementing a memorandum of understanding signed with WIPO to promote international cooperation and competition in intellectual property.
A representative from Songjiang said the training, held in the district for the first time, aims to enhance enterprises' capacity to use WIPO services and improve their ability to handle overseas intellectual property disputes.
Experts from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the WIPO Office in China and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service shared insights and engaged in discussions with participants.
