Shanghai and Yunnan province have launched a joint data product intellectual property (IP) registration service, marking a step toward expanding cross-regional cooperation and supporting the growth of the artificial intelligence industry and the digital economy.
The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and the Yunnan Intellectual Property Office have signed a framework cooperation agreement to establish a mechanism for IP registration of data products in Yunnan.
Building on Shanghai's pilot program for data product IP registration, the mechanism aims to better serve the needs of Yunnan market entities for rights registration and confirmation, while strengthening institutional support for digital innovation.
Under the co-building model, the Yunnan Intellectual Property Office will directly manage the mechanism, overseeing its establishment, operation, quality supervision, and performance improvement, while Shanghai provides coordinated business, technical, and training support.
The mechanism will feature dedicated infrastructure, professional personnel, and sound internal management systems, offering policy outreach, targeted enterprise guidance, registration consultation, and innovation in data product intellectual property protection and utilization.
Previously, 15 Yunnan market entities registered 17 data product IP rights in Shanghai, with several of these products securing more than 10 million yuan ($1.43 million) in bank-pledged financing loans.
Covering tea and coffee cultivation, tourism products, animal breeding, and ASEAN cross-border trade data, the initiative provides replicable experience for building a national data product intellectual property registration service network.
