The Shanghai Enterprise Intellectual Property Service (Hong Kong) was recently established to enhance overseas intellectual property (IP) dispute resolution mechanisms and broaden Shanghai's global network of public intellectual property services.

Yu Chen, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, remarked that as China's export-driven economy continues to expand steadily, international IP disputes are increasing, especially in fields like biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and integrated circuits.

The new service aims to integrate resources from Shanghai and Hong Kong to help enterprises resolve overseas IP issues efficiently.

Ma Yi, vice chairman of the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai and deputy director of the Shanghai International Arbitration Center, said Shanghai is working to build a globally influential innovation hub and a preferred venue for IP dispute resolution.

The center will expand its ability to manage international IP arbitration cases and support Shanghai's "five centers" initiative and China's broader opening-up efforts.

The establishment of the Hong Kong service implements the Regulations on the Handling of Foreign-Related Intellectual Property Disputes by the State Council of China. It improves Shanghai's overseas IP protection service system by offering cross-jurisdictional, full-chain legal and arbitration services for Chinese enterprises expanding abroad.
