The sub-forum of the 22nd Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum themed "Smart Industries and Intellectual Property" was held at Tongji University on Oct 20. Experts and officials from both domestic and international backgrounds gathered to discuss AI-driven innovation and intellectual property (IP) governance.

Yu Chen, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA), said AI is reshaping the global innovation landscape. He said that Shanghai aims to build an international innovation hub for AI and a global center for IP protection, promoting forward-looking governance and adaptive systems.

Zhao Hongduo, assistant president of Tongji University, emphasized that the university prioritizes IP education, interdisciplinary integration, and international partnerships, leading to significant accomplishments in research, talent development, and social engagement.

Panel discussions examined key intellectual property concerns in AI, ICT, and biomedicine. The event enhanced both theoretical and practical understanding of IP protection in the smart industry and encouraged international collaboration to drive innovation.
