Shanghai hosted a session of the 22nd Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum and the fifth IP Forum of Yangtze River Delta G60 S&T Innovation Valley on Oct 20 in Shanghai's Songjiang district, focusing on AI-era intellectual property (IP) protection and utilization.
The event was organized by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, East China University of Political Science and Law, and Songjiang District People's Government.

Guo Weilu, secretary of the Party Committee of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL), outlined the university's AI governance and AI plus IP initiatives, stressing cross-sector collaboration, talent cultivation, and a regional AI IP framework.

Wang Jing, deputy secretary of the CPC Songjiang District Committee and district director, highlighted the district's role as a high-end manufacturing hub, urging enterprises to focus on key technologies, IP strategy, and patent commercialization.
Yu Chen, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, said Shanghai aims to be an international IP hub, emphasizing AI-focused policies, coordinated protection, and converting high-value patents into practical applications.

The forum launched the Shanghai Songjiang Sub-center for Overseas IP Dispute Guidance, established the Songjiang 6G ICT Patent Alliance, released high-end instrument patent research, and featured a keynote by Lyu Guoqiang, head of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Shanghai Service.
