Born in 1962, Wang Jian, male, is from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. As an expert on cloud computing technology, he is the founder of Alibaba Cloud, director of Zhejiang Lab, and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Wang pioneered the "data-centric" distributed cloud computing architecture, becoming the first to propose the industry model of computing as a public service. He directed the research and development of the Alibaba Cloud computing platform with the large-scale cloud computing system "Apsara" as its core.
This platform, possessing proprietary intellectual property rights, significantly boosted China's influence in global cloud computing, enabling the country to start and advance the cloud journey largely in parallel with the international community.
In recognition of his excellent contribution to cloud computing, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019.
