The Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration recently issued the 17th Batch of Shanghai Key Trademark Protection List, covering 86 trademarks from 62 enterprises and public institutions with three distinct features.

The first feature is that it emphasizes protection for well-known foreign-related trademarks. A total of 27 marks from 17 foreign firms are included, such as Procter & Gamble's "SKII," Germany's Miji's "Miji Design Germany," Japan's Suntory Holdings' "SUNTORY" and France's Valeo's "VALEO" logo.

The second feature is that the protection spans a broader range of industries. It covers trendy culture like Labubu, theme parks including LEGOLAND, aviation operators such as Shanghai Airlines and fintech including Alipay, meeting diverse sectoral needs.

Thirdly, it supports regional key industries with as an example. Fengxian district's cosmetics cluster, CHANDO, is included. For Songjiang district's G60 Sci-Tech Innovation Corridor, new energy trademark Makesense and new materials trademark Swancor are added.

The key trademark protection system facilitates law enforcement, combats malicious squatting, strengthens cross-regional collaboration and supports overseas rights protection.

Moving forward, plans are for Shanghai to enhance measures to address concerns — fostering a law-based, international environment to boost foreign investment confidence.
