The district's river-and-sea environment, strong ecological foundation, and long agricultural history create ideal conditions for distinctive local products, making Chongming a natural incubator for geographical-indication industries rooted in sustainability and quality.
Chongming currently holds nine geographical indication certification trademarks, including Chongming Rice and Chongming white hyacinth bean, alongside six protected geographical indication products such as Chongming Laobaijiu rice wine and Chongming Hairy Crab.
Nearly 70 enterprises have been authorized to use the official geographical indication logo, while Chongming leads Shanghai with a total of 15 registered geographical indications, underscoring its scale and influence in this specialized field.
Chongming Rice has been included in the national key guidance list for geographical indications, and the district has been selected for inclusion in the national list of geographical indication product protection demonstration zones under preparation.
The district has consistently built on its unique resource endowments, treating geographical indications as a defining feature of its intellectual property strategy by strengthening protection, expanding application, and increasing public promotion of branded products.
