Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA) completed intellectual property (IP) service and protection duties for the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) from Nov 5 to 10. Rui Wenbiao, director-general of SIPA, inspected the venue on opening day and urged rigorous, people-centered IP support.
SIPA strengthened coordination across departments, streamlined service procedures, and boosted protections for patents, trademarks, and geographical indications. It also established a one-stop IP protection and dispute resolution center in collaboration with the CIIE Bureau.
During the expo, SIPA's on-site team carried out scheduled patrols and inspected over 1,000 exhibits, displays, and promotional materials. Utilizing 140 person-times, the team achieved zero infringement complaints and maintained a safe environment.
The green channel for exhibition proof procedures received significant attention. SIPA assisted a Peruvian exhibitor unable to submit qualification documents by verifying their credentials through the official database, eliminating extra paperwork and gaining recognition from participating companies.
To expand spillover effects, SIPA co-hosted the 2025 Intellectual Property Protection and Enterprise International Development Conference & "Chains and Enterprises" Patent Industrialization Project Promotion Conference, unveiling new results including China's first group standard for evaluating patent pool maturity and supporting relevant industrialization efforts.
Public outreach involved multi-platform media engagement and the distribution of over 300 brochures to exhibitors. These efforts demonstrated Shanghai's dedication to establishing a reliable, innovation-friendly IP environment that promotes global cooperation and fosters business growth.
