IP Publicity Week kicks off in Shanghai

In celebration of the 25th World Intellectual Property Day, the 2025 National IP Publicity Week (Shanghai Sub-venue) commenced in Pudong New Area on April 21.

Wang Ping, deputy secretary-general of the municipal government, Wu Jincheng, head of Pudong New Area, Xu Yuanyuan, director of the Mechanical Invention Examination Department of the Patent Office at the National Intellectual Property Administration and Rui Wenbiao, director-general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, jointly inaugurated the event.

Wu said that this year marks Pudong's 35th anniversary of development and opening-up and the final year for establishing itself as an IP protection hub. Pudong, a pioneer in the reform of the management system of intellectual property rights (IPR), will deepen practical innovation in the IP field and strengthen IPR full-chain protection.

Xu said that Shanghai has made pioneering efforts in the reform of IP management systems, creation of protection mechanisms, improvement of application systems, and provision of public services. The National Intellectual Property Administration will continue to support the development of Shanghai's IP industry, strengthen policy guidance and resource allocation, and work together to push IP protection to new heights.

This year's National IP Publicity Week focuses on "Intellectual Property Rights and Artificial Intelligence". At the event, the Shanghai IP Protection Center and the Shanghai AI Industry Association jointly unveiled a rights protection assistance station to enhance IP protection in the AI industry, fostering innovation in this leading industry.

Additionally, Pudong launched an overseas IPR protection service cooperation unit database and released the Pudong New Area Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Intellectual Property Protection Guidelines to support local businesses in safeguarding their IPR.

Throughout the publicity week, 159 IP-related activities will be held and IPR promotional videos will be broadcast on IPTV, public transportation, buildings and mobile TVs citywide to spread awareness about respecting and safeguarding IP. This initiative aims to cultivate a conducive environment for Shanghai to expedite the development of an international IP protection hub.
