Joint conference mechanism
As a deliberation and coordination body approved by Shanghai government, Shanghai Intellectual Property Joint Conference mainly engages in the overall work of Shanghai's IP development. Its major functions include strengthening the macro-management of IP in Shanghai, promoting the implementation of national IP policies and guidelines, studying and formulating the major IP policy measures and strategic norms in Shanghai and supervising their implementation, organizing judiciary authorities and law enforcement agencies in Shanghai to carry out IP protection work, cracking down on IP violations and crimes, and launching IP social publicity.

Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and Shanghai Bureau of Market Regulation engage in the management and protection of patents, trademarks and geographical indications of origin. The Publicity Department of the CPC Shanghai Committee and the Shanghai Culture and Tourism Bureau's Law Enforcement Team engage in the management and protection of copyright. Shanghai Public Security Bureau engages in cracking down on intellectual property crimes. Shanghai High People's Court and Shanghai People's Procuratorate engage in providing juridical protection for IP. Shanghai Customs engages in providing border protection for IP.
Shanghai Intellectual Property Joint Conference has one first convener, which duty is performed by the vice-mayor in charge of IP. It also has two conveners, which duties are performed by relevant deputy secretary-general of Shanghai government and the director of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration. Shanghai Intellectual Property Joint Conference Office was set up in the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration and is responsible for its routine work.
