Shanghai district's rule of law spurs business confidence

The Fengxian district of East China's Shanghai recently gave a presentation on its commitment to the rule of law at a manufacturing investment event.

The district demonstrated its legal rigor in an intellectual property, or IP protection case involving Heidelberg Graphic Equipment (Shanghai) Co Ltd – a subsidiary of German international group Heidelberg Graphic Equipment Limited.

When Heidelberg challenged the unauthorized use of its trademark by Shanghai Debao Packaging Products Co Ltd, the Fengxian authorities acted promptly. Within two days, an investigation was underway that resulted in the rapid removal of the infringing content and a change of the company name.

This decisive action is said to have underscored Shanghai's commitment to protecting business interests and legal rights and has bolstered the confidence of foreign investors.

This view was echoed by CIRCUTOR, a Spanish electrical industry giant that previously benefited from Fengxian's legal protection.

Overall, the Fengxian district market supervision administration has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a fair business environment for all enterprises based in the precinct.

That's been reflected in the district's economic indicators, with foreign-funded businesses contributing 41 percent to total tax revenue last year. There was also a hefty 75 percent increase in new foreign-invested enterprises there in 2023, leading to an overall 18 percent increase in foreign investment.

It's widely appreciated that Fengxian's adherence to the rule of law continues to attract and reassure global businesses, fostering an environment that is conducive to high-quality economic growth.
