Shanghai hosts summit on IP services, digital economy

The 2023 SIPSA International Summit on Intellectual Property Service, a sub-forum of the 20th Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum, was held in Shanghai on Dec 11.

The event was themed on high-quality IP services being a driving force for the innovative development of the digital economy.

Wang Ping, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Rui Wenbiao, director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration (SIPA), and Wei Lan, deputy director general of the SIPA, attended the forum and delivered speeches.

Wang said that Shanghai has in recent years been a pioneer in creating a strong IP city and achieved remarkable results in the creation, protection and use of IP.

He added that Shanghai will further advance reform and innovation in the field of IP, promote the effective connection of service chains, innovation chains, industrial chains and talent chains, and better facilitate the high-quality development of the digital economy.

The opening ceremony also featured a promotional video that introduced the development history and achievements of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Service Industry Association (SIPSA), which was established five years ago. The video highlighted the positive role of the association in promoting the upgrading of the IP service industry, driving the development of various IP fields, and supporting Shanghai's construction of a science and innovation center.

A cooperation signing ceremony involving the Shanghai Intellectual Property Protection Center, the Shanghai Data Exchange, and SIPSA was also held at the meeting. The three sides will further leverage the functional advantages of various institutions, boost cooperation and exchange, and provide strong support for Shanghai to accelerate its construction of an international highland for IP protection and create a first-class business environment.
