China shows its power in high-end industry

China Intellectual Property News| Updated: June 24, 2022 L M S

IP is injecting impetus to develop China into a country potent in science and technology, and China will continue to contribute its wisdom to the development of the mankind, manifested by the facts that China's homegrown C919 aircraft completed its debut test flight in Shanghai, the world's highest automatic meteorological monitoring station was set up, new progress has been made in the lunar soil research.

C919 plane ready for delivery

Recently, the C919 plane finished its pre-delivery test flight, scoring new achievements in high-end industry market.

The C919 plane is China's first homemade trunk-liner meeting the latest international airworthiness standard. Since the project was set up in 2006, it took more than ten years to tackle key problems, complete its maiden flight in 2017 and now get ready for delivery. More than 200 companies, 36 universities and tens of thousands of researchers and workers from 22 provinces have participated in this project, resulting in the output of 100+ key technologies and 10,000+ patent applications.

In recent years, China has dished out several measures to bolster high-quality creation of IPRs, which laid a solid foundation for independently developing those 'giant machines' that matter to the country. The index of high-value invention patent obtained by per 10,000 heads have a access to the 14th Five-Year Plan and Vision 2035 of China.  The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), along with relevant authorities, issued opinions on promoting high-quality development of S&T organizations via IPR. It also guides local IP administrations to establish patent navigation service bases and popularize national standard of patent navigation. CNIPA spares no efforts in improving examination quality and efficiency and squeezes the pendency of high value invention patents to 13.3 months. (by Yang Liu)

Meteorology monitoring station established high above

A team of 13 Chinese scientific researchers established an automatic meteorology monitoring station at an altitude of over 8,830 meters on the north side of Mount Qomolangma (Mont Everest), making it the world's highest of its kind.

As the weather data of extra-high altitude is rare in the world, the establishment of this weather monitoring station can obtain comprehensive and accurate data, which can fill in that blank. One of the major tasks of scientific research on the mountain is to build a coordinated elevation gradient meteorological system in the Qomolangma area.

China has carried out three meteorological experiments on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in 1979, 1998 and 2013 respectively, which has accumulated rich experiences, innovative technologies and data for developing modern meteorological monitoring system and improving accuracy of weather forecast in the area.

At present, the stations are able to acquire the data including temperature on the north side of Qomolangma, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, solar radiation. The special weather and ecological environment of the plateau, as the third polar of the Earth, gradually open itself up to the world. The system is also beneficial to ecological environment protection and increase the ability to serve the people in the area as long as it operates.

In recent years, the National Meteorological Information Center of China Meteorological Administration has filed 22 invention patent applications from 2002 to 2021, 72.7% of which have been granted. (by Li Yangfang)

New progress made in lunar soil research

Further progress was made in research on lunar soil. Recently, a research team of Nanjing University found that some components of lunar soil taken back by Chang'e 5 lunar probe can be used as catalyst. They can use sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen, hydrogen, methane and methyl alcohol. Based on the findings, the researchers claim that the mankind will be able to use lunar resources to build a base there for further exploration, research and visits in the future.

China has presented some findings in these years. By using nuclear method, more than 40 chemical elements have been found in the lunar soil by the China Institute of Atomic Energy of China National Nuclear Corporation. A S&T team of Tsinghua University proposed a solution to build semi basement on lunar with airbag, lunar soil brick and lunar soil pocket structure. The team has achieved innovations on lunar brick and filed some patent applications on lunar soil in China.

In the next five years, China will continue to carry out lunar probe project, and build a lunar S&T station with relevant countries, international organizations and international collaboration partners, according to a white book titled China's Space Program: A 2021 Perspective. In this connection, it is possible for mankind to build a house on lunar in the near future.
