The Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property, or SICIP – based in East China's Shanghai – on Sept 7 held its orientation ceremony for new students.

The SICIP was established in November 2016 by Shanghai's Tongji University – with the support of World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO, the China National Intellectual Property Administration or CNIPA and the Shanghai municipal government – and is based at Tongji's IP Institute.

At the same time on Sept 7, the SICIP held the opening ceremony for the new semester of WIPO-Tongji Master's Degree Program in Intellectual Property Law and the Chinese Government "Belt and Road" Master's Program in Intellectual Property.

During the ceremony Liu Jian, CNIPA deputy director general, thanked Tongji University for its support of the two programs and welcomed new students through a video link.

Yu Chen, deputy director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, told the ceremony via video that the body would give its full support to the international cooperation and training undertaken at the SICIP.

He urged students to help contribute to mutual understanding and friendly cooperation in the international IP field in the future.

This year, 14 doctorate students, 76 master's students and 21 international students from 12 countries – including Tajikistan, India, Sweden and Chad – have been enrolled.
