The eighth China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair – or CSITF – kicked off in the city of Shanghai in East China on April 15, a platform which the organizers reportedly said showcased state-of-art technologies and innovations.

A forum on intellectual property and trade in technology was held on April 16 as part of the fair – the first time that CSITF has set up a professional IP forum.

Wang Dongfeng, vice-inspector of the Intellectual Property Utilization Promotion Department of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, attended the forum.

He said during a speech that CSITF was an important platform for the exchange of international advanced technologies and the development of the trade in technology.

He also pointed out that China has continuously improved its policies and measures, to comprehensively improve the effectiveness of intellectual property rights protection and applications.

Zhang Yongzhong, deputy director general of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, also gave a keynote speech during the forum.

He said intellectual property was an important part of the trade in technology and a key guarantee to promoting the development of it.

Shanghai has been attaching great importance to innovative reforms of IP. The city will reportedly focus on the goal of building itself up as an international IP protection highland. It plans to boost its efficient use of IP and create a world-class business environment that respects the value of knowledge, Zhang added.

Experts from various government departments, universities, professional service institutions and public service platforms shared their policy interpretations and practical experiences on IP issues in the technology trade during the event.
